Yerba Buena Night 2015
Bad Unkl Sista and SORNE debuted a new collaborative work “After awake, Before asleep” at the annual Yerba Buena Night, a free outdoor arts festival.
Based on the poem “After awake, Before asleep (a kind of villanelle)” by Eve Lubin Bradford, this four-hour continuous performance installation will explore the stillpoint dance form and state work performance techniques developed by Bad Unkl Sista artistic director Anastazia Aranaga. These are utilized to cultivate an internal landscape that offers a vulnerable, authentic experience for the performer as well as the audience. SORNE will create vocal tapestries on a foundation created by percussionist Daniel Yasmin, including hand-made gong trees and prepared tympani drums.
This debut of “After awake, Before asleep” also featured ERO MACHINA, an animation by Arizona-based visualist Adam Cooper-Terán.
