Karla Mi Lugo

Karla Mi Lugo
Karla Mi Lugo is a wandering performance artist and musician. She began cultivating her creativity in 2007, when a coworker taught her how to play “Fade into You” by Mazzy Star on guitar. After discovering music as an outlet of expression, she began experimenting with unconventional methods of playing guitar, and eventually started exploring other instruments. In 2009, Karla discovered the accordion and began street performing and traveling with musicians and circus groups up and down the west coast. In lieu of formal musical training, Karla has instead learned from many travelers, artists, musicians, and pedestrians.

In 2011, Karla experimented with mime and took a two-month vow of silence, which unlocked a world of movement and physical expression. With a soft pulsing spot for the unconventional and Avant Garde, she moved in San Francisco in 2012 and continued to explore and expand her performance and musical experience with the Merchants of Reality art collective and Accordion Apocalypse.

Through her work with Bad Unkl Sista, Karla seeks to explore dreams and subconscious realms of movement and breath with the troupe. In addition, Karla is currently performing and constantly reworking her one woman show Billie Holiday Impersonator which combines, music, dance, comedy, circus and storytelling.
